Sliding wardrobes – a space saving solution for compact bedrooms

Key Things To Consider Before You Buy

• Floor Space and Depth: Sliding wardrobes generally require a slightly deeper space than wardrobes that you can buy which are fitted with hinged doors.  As a general rule of thumb sliding wardrobes are usually around 600mm to 650mm deep, this is because of the sliding track mechanism on the front of the wardrobe which  will normally end up taking up about 50mm to 100mm of depth.
• Access Limits: Unlike hinged doors where you can open the entire wardrobe at once, sliding doors will always block one half of the interior. As such the key thing for you to remember is to organise the internal layout of your new wardrobe so that your frequently used items aren't split awkwardly across the middle of the two doors a.
• Track Quality: The longevity of your wardrobe will often depend entirely on its running gear. If you can afford to then you should opt for a wardrobe that is made with high-quality aluminium tracks and is fitted with steel-wheeled rollers on the doors as well as soft-close mechanisms to ensure smooth, quiet sliding that won't jump off the tracks over time.
