Light occasional use?  Or regular use?

If you want a stylish solution for having to do the occasional bit of work on a laptop or tablet, or looking for somewhere to use as a writing desk for the occasional letter and a bit of domestic filing then a ladder desk could be for you.  They are compact, don’t take up too much space, and typically come with a couple of shelves and a drawer built in to provide all important storage and make them blend into a living space more easily

If you think you will need to use it more then you are going to be better served by picking a more traditionally styled desk.

Straight desk vs Corner Desk

The answer to this one depends on a couple of factors – where you are going to put it, and what you are going to use it for.

If you are planning on putting your desk in the middle of the room, a straight desk is the more sensible choice as a corner desk will take up a lot of space and a straight desk will fit in much more easily.  However, if you are going to put your new desk in the corner of a room, then a corner desk will give you a lot more working space, and it will feel a lot less intrusive than putting a large desk like one of these in the middle of the room.

If you need a desk for all day working and a dual monitor set up, a corner desk will be a better choice for you.  This will enable you to have multiple zones for working and writing, and will feel a lot less cramped than attempting to have a dual monitor setup on a straight desk.  Whilst a straight desk is great for may things, it is not as deep as a corner desk so equipment heavy working setups can feel cramped and squashed in quite quickly.

Drawers or Cupboard Under The Desk?

My personal preference would always be to go for a desk with a combination of the two.  Both have their benefits and it all depends on how you are planning on using the desk, and what you are planning on storing.  Drawers are great for small and light items such as pens, cables, envelopes etc, they help keep all the clutter off the desk surface and tidied away.  If you are planning on storing heavier items such as large quantities of paperwork then consider going for a cupboard space.  The shelves in these would typically be much more robust than the bottoms found in standard drawers.
