Coffee Tables (The Centrepiece)

The anchor of the seating area. It holds drinks, remotes, books, and sometimes will also double up as a footrest or a casual dining spot.

• Rectangular or Oval: These are normally best for standard, long sofas. Oval in particular is great if you are a bit tight for space or have kids as it has no sharp corners to worry about.
• Square or Round: Perfect for large sectional sofas or equally anyone with an L-shaped seating arrangement.
• Storage or Lift-Top: Ideal if you need to hide clutter or if you want to work/eat from the settee.

Side & End Tables (The Supporters)

Sometimes also called by lamp tables (because traditionally they would have had a lamp on them). You will typically find these placed next to armchairs or at the ends of a sofa. They should be roughly the same height as the arm of the chair/sofa they sit next to.

• C-Tables: Shaped to look like the letter "C," these will potentially slide over the seat of your sofa, saving you a massive amount of floor space in the process.
• Nesting Tables: These typically come as a set of 2 or 3 tables that will stack under each other. This way, you can pull them out when guests arrive, and then tuck them away again when they leave and you no longer need them.

Console Tables (The Accent)

Traditionally long, narrow tables which you would typically find placed against a wall, in a hallway, or alternatively directly behind a floating sofa.

• Behind the Sofa: Great for holding table lamps and dropping a drink if you're sitting in the middle of a long couch.
• Against the Wall: Often used to frame a TV, hold media components, or display decor and photos.
