Dining chairs come in many styles, shapes, and designs.  Trying to decode what type of chair each one is from its name can be a confusing minefield.  Here are some of the most common types of dining chairs, grouped by design style and structure. 1. Based on Structure Side Chair The most common dining chair and also usually the best value as well due to it’s simplicity of design. No armrests. Lightweight and easy to move. Usually placed along the sides of a dining table. Armchair (Carver Chair) Come complete with armrests. Often found at the head of the dining table due to it’s imposing appearance compared to side chairs. Feels more formal and comfortable due it’s arms and more complex design. Wingback Dining Chair High backed chair that comes with “wings” on the sides. Usually upholstered and luxurious in both design and comfort levels. Commonly seen in formal dining rooms. 2. Classic & Traditional Styles Windsor Chair An impressive looking wooden chair with spindle back and curved design. Perfect for both traditional and farmhouse design styles. Ladder-Back Chair Backrest has horizontal slats like a ladder. Suits either rustic or country style design themes. Slat-Back Chair Similar to ladder-back but with vertical slats. Gives a simple and classic look. Queen Anne Chair Elegant style with curved legs and ornate details. Used in formal or traditional interiors. Chippendale Chair Known for decorative wood carving and intricate backs. Inspired by 18th-century English furniture design. 3. Modern & Contemporary Styles Parsons Chair Comes with a fully upholstered seat and back. Normally designed with simple, straight lines. Works well and also very popular in modern homes. Mid-Century Modern Chair Minimalist design with tapered legs and organic curves. Inspired by 1950s–1960s furniture design. Tulip Chair Single pedestal base design instead of the more traditional four legs. Sleek modern design first created in the 1950s. 4. Popular Decorative Styles Cross-Back (X-Back) Chair The backrest forms an “X” shape. Very common in farmhouse or French bistro interiors. Tufted Dining Chair Upholstered with button tufting for a quilted look. Adds a luxury or glam feel to the look of the room Wishbone / Y-Back Chair Unique Y-shaped backrest with curved frame. Popular in Scandinavian design. Here at Price Crash Furniture we have a diverse selection of all of the most popular designs of dining chairs for you to choose from.
